"Close enough," McGillvary said, getting to his feet. "Your father will look like a parrot when he wears it, but what is that to us?" He closed his trunk and replaced the Holland cloth. "That's it," he said, brushing the knees of breeches. "These will have to do. How many green-colored coats does one man need?"
"He won't appreciate your workmanship," said Elizabeth, mopping her forehead again.
"He isn't meant to." McGillvary swung the bundle onto his shoulder.
Elizabeth's frown deepened. "Patrick," she said, "you don't think that he would ... why we've only just been married!"
"Oh yes, I do," said McGillvary. "Within the week we'll have him hanging at the gates of Belsom, crying to get in."
"But he cannot live with us! He must not! We will never get him out!"
And I won't even comment on Caroline's jewelry.
