If you are, you must remember the Dream Season. The season opens with Pam having dreamed her husband, Bobby, is dead. (Actor Patrick Duffy left in a contract dispute.) The entire season was a cornucopia of implausable plot problems that sent the show spinning down the ratings rabbit hole.
The producers of Dallas being clever and highly motivated to stop the slide, fixed things. The next season opened with Pam waking to the shower running, and VOILA! Bobby was lathering up 
just as if he had never left. (Much money traded hands to get Patrick Duffy back into that shower.)
I suspect the beloved, but unpredictible Patrick McGillvary caused a lot of upheavel off screen, making the church scene unuseable. Over the previous months, the admiral and the authoress have come to terms. (Hers to be sure.)
Wonders await!
