Posted by JaneGS I would go with compelling and close over perfect but dull every time. I bookmarked Kinuko Craft's website years ago, and still like her art, though it may be more of a fantasy look than you want: http://www.kycraft.com/ I personally really like the Penguin classics look over the standard romance (ripped bodice look) or the Georgette Heyer look. I would steer clear of too strong a nautical look--ala Patrick O'Brien--as I don't think you want readers to think they're getting a naval adventure. My own stories tend to have nature as a redeeming force, so should I ever be in a position to choose cover art I would personally go with one of my brother's photos. Here's my current favorite: http://www.stewartgreen.com/html/galleries/new_england/new_england6.html Good luck--let me know when your book is in print

If you've ever seen As Time Goes By (the Britcom), you'll know Alistair Deacon's opinion on cover art...it has to say "Pick me up and buy me."
