Hi Peter.
Under the brilliant Leadership of Olle Wijkstroem this situation changed dramatically over the next ten years. With the help of SIDA (maybe one of their few successful assignments) and not least Mr. Don Hymers efforte in the training center the expatriate content was greatly reduced.
Mr. Wijkstroem gave the local citizens in the area a great role to play by farming out things like bus services and light vehicle maintenance to capable Liberians. Your own father was a key link in this transformation.
Your question: "What can we/I do to alliviate the current situation"?
First: Do not donate money to International Organizations. The fat Cat's cream off too much of the money with minimal improvements to the people who really need the aid.
Keep browsing the Internet, find old trusted friends in Liberia and make direct contribution to help them survive this impossibly difficult time.
