Posted by Librarian on 3/14/2004, 8:55 am, in reply to "Re: Publications-Terinte/Dulceanu" Please bear in mind that Dr. Neculai Dulceanu (now deceased) was a parasitologist, not an entomologist. The errors contained within the website have been drawn to the attention of the owner of the cdfoundit website on many occasions. Corrections were never made. Dr. Dulceanu was made aware of the errors and hoped corrections would be made. I'm sure he was very disappointed they were not. Dr. Dulceanu's work is highly respected. He received numerous awards during his lifetime and was a cherished friend to those of us who knew him. Received from respected entomologist specializing in Collembola: http://www.cdfound.to.it/html/ecto_col.htm#coll8 , http://www.cdfound.to.it/html/ecto_col.htm#coll9 and http://www.cdfound.to.it/html/ecto_col.htm#coll3 are repeats of the first above

The following comments were written by a leading Colembola authority within the U.S.
is a bizarre acumulation of pictures The eggs exuvium and larva and pupa have nothing to do with the adult Entomobyid shown in th last picture. This is too poor to identify beyond the subfamily Entomobryinae tribe Entomobryini. All are free living feeding on either decaying plant material, unicellular algae, wounded leaves, or detritus.
http://www.cdfound.to.it/html/ecto_col.htm#coll11 is the same specimen and the descrition maked it likely that it is a member of Entomoberya or Seira.
http://www.cdfound.to.it/html/coll10.htm is a close up of the "pupa" it looks very much like a fragment of a leaf and a very early developing seed.
Collemboila have no lkarvae or pupae and the eggs are on stalks
Scan 7 - 8 .- 9- 10 looked more like fungal hyphae than anything else I can think of
Scan 11
# 3 Collembola , possibly same or similar to one shown in the above .
If thjere was a fungal infection it is possible that the Ciollembola were feeding on the fungi .
Scan 15 -# 9 look like fungus spores more than eggs
Scan 13 Superficial smaller drawing Rotifer like but larger drawing and 14 not like anything I have ever seen .
Scan 12 upper looks lihke fungal hypae lower like yeast cells
Scan 16 the ship from which they took the Aliens at Rosewell in 1951`
Scans 17-18-19 outside my knowledge but looks mpore like a protozoan infection than anything else I can think of.
...
Incidentally the only verified case I know of of a Collembolan being associated with skin troble was Seira domestica - the common European household Collembola ( not found in U.S. houses) producing a superficial pruritis on the scalp. The speciemns the pictures are of are not that species."
