I think Bob and Dave were friends early on, when Dave acted up and left KT, Bob was scorned . JS was in a way a God sent saving the Trio and enabling them to continue. Bob realized that but behind that in Bob's mind, "He wasn't Dave". I have a short article commenting on John's black eye, this was early in John's tenure with KT. There was another item can't tell you where but that KT was in Mexico doing a concert(s) and Bob and John had a tiff/fight and I think that is where John got the black eye. Don't get me wrong later there were many comments I remember from Bob about how he appreciated John and he was defensive of John. Bob had the personality that once he took you in you were in period.

Why do you think Shane commented about the vibrato, he doesn't know how to sing with a vibrato ? I have my own theory.

When John Stewart first joined the KT, he had a vocal vibrato, most notably on the studio recording of Where Have All the Flowers Gone? Bob Shane stated that was he just didn't know how to sing. I happened to have liked it. The google definition states this "A natural vibrato is the most accurate barometer of correct vocal production. It is an even, steady tonal oscillation of the pitch center" How does everyone feel about this? Should John have worked to eliminate this or retain it. Seems like Glen Yarbrough made a pretty good career with a vibrato.
