I agree but in addition to that Dave made an ultimatum my way or the highway and that just doesn't fly with mature adults.
Paul, just a theory:
When Dave fussed about the embezzlement of the publishing money and complained that he didn't think management was minding the store, he passed the point of no return with Frank Werber.
That was a direct challenge to Werber, and Werber made sure it was Dave, not Werber, who departed.
Some of Bob Shane's anger might be from an interview I remember where Bob says "Its too bad something couldn't have been worked out (with Dave) we were on a real roll !" Bob was thinking about all those years ahead that were thrown away by the split at the height of their popularity.
