I believe that what you've said reflects all of our feelings.
There are two important names that you omitted. Pat Horine and Jimmy Connor.
These guys played a very important role in the Trio saga and should not be overlooked.
This was the first configuration of the Trio where Bob Shane was the only original member. Like Rodney Dangerfield....this Trio didn't get the respect it deserved. Fans were not willing to accept new members of the Trio then....It took a long time for this to happen. They were very good.... instrumentally and vocally. They did some fantastic songs. This Trio was headquartered in Atlanta and had many fans there.
Pat Horine was from Lexington, KY, where I am from too. We knew each other as kids, and because of this, it was the cause of my getting to know Bob Shane on a basis that was a little more than my being just another fan.
A lot of the talk on this board has been about our being fans. For many of us, it's much, much deeper. Most of us are personal friends of Bob Bobbie, George, Bill, Rick, and Paul. I think this makes this situation all the more worse. Now, I doubt if Josh has any friends here. Many of us knew Nick pretty well. Many of us know that there was a rift between him and George. Even so, I doubt if Nick would have condoned what Josh and Mike have done.
: Hello Kingstonians,
: I'm the new guy and this is my first post. Any comments, plus or minus, are most
: welcome. And thank you all for letting me join you.
: "These are the times that try fans' souls. In the course of our history, the
: fans of The Kingston Trio have rallied bravely whenever the music has been
: threatened. Today, a new crisis has arisen. The three men that we have come to love
: and admire as The Kingston Trio will play as The Kingston Trio no more. Fans, hear
: me out... this has happened to us before..."
: I have been a KT fan for almost 60 years. Like many of you, I have suffered through
: the hard times and tragedies that befell the Trio through those many years: Dave
: leaving the group, the breakup in 1968, Roger's death, Dave's death, Nick's second
: retirement, John's death, Bob's heart attack and Nick's death.
: The long road that the Trio, and we, their devoted fans have traveled has had its
: share of
: hazards. But despite all that has happened, the quality of the music never wavered,
: never failed to go right to our hearts and our very souls. The voices changed, but
: the sound remained Kingston-Trio-Rock-Solid.
: Now, we do not know the full story behind this shocking and heartbreaking change.
: Perhaps we never will. I am angry and distressed. Any thoughts that I have are pure
: speculation and as I do not know the whole story, I cannot nor will not express any
: opinions or vent my spleen here until the true facts are known.
: In closing, I can only say that I will sorely miss George, Bill and Rick: The Last
: True Keepers of the Flame.
: Best regards,
