I won't mention names, but this year there were 2 complaints against me.
In March, somebody complained I became too political and talked about our
Canadian Prime Minister. Actually, all I was trying to do was tell my American
friends not to be so hard on President Trump. Canada's guy (Trudeau) isn't so
perfect either. Canada + U.S.A. are still the 2 greatest countries to live in.
Then, more recently, there was somebody who wanted me banned because I used the name "Gordon Lightfoot".
I only did that for fun + entertainment purposes, but this guy brought it to another level. Apparently he really believed I was "Gordon".
But know this: He had given "Gordon Lightfoot" an e-mail address,
so I personally tried to contact him and tell him who I really was and offered to send him a Gordon Lightfoot LP,
autographed by our Canadian legendary singer/songwriter, himself. ("Don Quixote" album).
The e-mail address he had given me (or "Gordo") turned out to be FALSE !!!
What I did NOT expect was a ton of private e-mails from Crossroaders who supported me and who told me not to lose my sense of humour.
So I wanted to THANK all those out there who supported me and who told me to keep on keepin' on !!!
<> Movin' on to our Kingstons:
So "THE KINGSTON TRIO + FRIENDS REUNION" (1981) wasn't the show it was supposed to be.
BOB SHANE never relinquished centre spot to the former acknowledged leader DAVE GUARD...
and Bob only agreed to do this "Reunion" show in order to promote his CURRENT group...
which featured BOB SHANE + GEORGE GROVE + ROGER GAMBILL.
Fans wanted to see BOB SHANE + NICK REYNOLDS + DAVE GUARD + JOHN STEWART perform.
Watching these guys on stage would have been enough for us.
No MARY TRAVERS + No LINDSEY BUCKINGHAM !!!!!!
I knew the fans would be disappointed because the "original" Kingstons only got to sing 6 songs. (3 Guard Trio + 3 Stewart Trio)
There was in-fighting behind the scenes as well. Bob + Dave were not getting along which is why BOB SHANE left for about an hour.
TOM SMOTHERS mentioned that at the show...and he wasn't joking!
(more details later)
I could see Bob was not happy performing next to DAVE GUARD.
Then there's the mid-60's when THE KINGSTON TRIO recorded for DECCA Records.
NICK REYNOLDS + JOHN STEWART were getting to be good friends while BOB SHANE
became "the third wheel". Nick admired John's song-writing skills and
approved so many of his songs (ie: "Children Of The Morning") when BOB SHANE
wasn't looking! Turns out Bob was UNHAPPY about this and even told some people
that he didn't like the songs !!! Here we go again, eh?
Disagreements among ourselves and our Kingstons too.
I guess the best thing we could all do is to FORGIVE the other person.
And from personal experience, it is far easier to forgive someone else,
than it is to forgive yourself !!!
