I never saw this Reba version of SOUTH PACIFIC before, and I love it.
Merci beaucoupe, Monsieur !!!
Thank you for welcoming back to Crossroads, but I never really left.
I was just playin' hard to get. (hahaha)
Anyhow, once I'm here, I just wanted to address something that's kinda been
bugging me for awhile.
First, I should tell you, that a beautiful girl named Wendy Harrison
told me 2 things about me, back in the year 1968:
First she told me that I wasn't completely USELESS, since I could always
serve as a BAD EXAMPLE. Yes, and secondly ----
Wendy told me she especially like me because if I had something to say...
I'd damn well say it !!! So here goes:
<> GEORGE GROVE + KINGSTON CROSSROADERS
I'm not sure about the date. I think it might have been around Christmas time of last
year. George Grove posted something about THE KINGSTON TRIO & FRIENDS REUNION.
Now, I just want to point out that although I'm FANATIC about the original +
semi-original KINGSTON TRIO (Bob + Nick + Dave + John), and have listened to
their albums thousands of times, I'm OKAY with the current group of George +
Bill + Rick. If they should ever appear in Montreal or Ottawa or Toronto,
I would make it a point to see them. I would even bring family + friends along.
George Grove posted something about THE KINGSTON TRIO & FRIENDS REUNION.
KT fans (ie: Crossroaders) "MainelyK3" + "Joe Connors" + "Bryan Nelson" +
"Terry Collins" (forgive me if I got your names wrong)...
asked GEORGE GROVE if he could provide some info regarding what took place BEHIND THE SCENES of this "REUNION" Show.
=> SILENCE WAS THE BOLD REPLY
No A + R (Acknowledgement + Recognition). Nothing! These gentlemen who are big fans of
the great KINGSTON TRIO were asking a question in good faith.
I would have loved to see a reply from George.
I'm sure I'm NOT the ONLY one !!!
ps: Max, I too, became a fan of THE KINGSTON TRIO because my brother, Phil,
brought home 3 of their albums:
- THE KINGSTON TRIO
- FROM THE HUNGRY "I"
- AT LARGE
Up until then, my Dad kept playing the LP: "SOUTH PACIFIC" and my brother
would sometimes pop in HARRY BELAFONTE's "CALYPSO" album. One of the songs
on there, "Jamaica Farewell", gave our KINGSTONs their name:
"I'm sad to say, I'm on my way, won't be back for many a day,
my heart is down, my head is spinning around, I had to leave a
little girl in Kingston Town."
Best Regards + Thanks again for your good stories + warm welcome.
: Well Bruce.......
: Welcome back........
: We've missed you.....
: Over the years, I've noticed that there are many divisions among us Trio fans.....
: One that has always interested me are what I call the "Legacy Fans."
: These are people who became fans because of a brother or sister who bought a Trio
: I'm one...once removed....
: The brother of my friend, Tom McGoodwin, who introduced me to the Trio ....
: His older brother, Billy, was in college and he brought home From The Hungry i.
: Because of his sister....George Grove is one.
: Then, there are the South Pacific fans....
: I grew up hearing the B'way version........because of my mother.
: Dave and Bob were/are huge SP fans.
: It's easy to understand why....
: So, if you don't have SP in your ... early learning....
: You came to the Trio ..... missing something that others didn't have....
: Yes, I know I'm being a bit of an A-hole on this...
: But, it's true.
: For me, the best SP ever is the one that stared Reba...
: You may be busy when you are reading this......
: But, if you don't watch all of it now....
