Lost a Good One

If you're a jazz guitar junkie like me, you've probably heard of Larry Coryell's passing last Sunday. I first came to appreciate his playing during the early periods of his work with John McLaughlin. Later, in the mid-70s, after he switched his focus to acoustic guitar, I became even more appreciative of his talent. Larry Coryell was a major exemplar of a musician's refusal to be bound to one genre only. To him, anything was fair game and he had the chops to explore widely different types and styles of music, all with authority. A great guitarist. He was 73.
