I'd like to have been a screenwriter........ If I had tried to do this when I was young, I might have been able to pull it off.
Sorkin's been the screenwriter for some of my favorite TV shows and movies.
I've always wondered why I like his stuff so much. He said that his career was a fluke. He wanted to be a screenwriter, and was working as a bar tender at a NY theater. He said he wrote the play for "A Few Good Men," first, on napkins while the play was going on (he served at the bar during intermission). The play was a hit. (It is still being performed.) The movie made him rich and gave him the income he needed to wrote more stuff. I'm sure that the movie people were knocking at his door. He wrote the screenplay for "American President," which stared Michael Douglas. It evolved into West Wing.
What he is really good at is writing dialogue.........All of his stuff is about solving problems. He puts you in the position of looking over the shoulders of the people in his movie who have problems to solve. I've spent my life trying to solve problems. (I'm my biggest problem.) I'm great at solving other peoples' problems. Just ask me! I talked to Shane about a month ago. He said, "What business are you in this week, Max? Shane knows me very well.
This week, Jackee and I are in the business of making 45 second video ads for Facebook. In the past, I've always been the technician.....This time, it's Jackee. She really knows Facebook. And, can edit videos. I operate the camera.
Aside from being a big fan of Sorkin's stuff.... I thought that taking his class would help us. It cost $90. It was VERY basic, but well worth the money. Plus, I enjoyed getting to know Sorkin. Like me, he has ADD and is probably manic-depressive too. All creative people are manic-depressive.
It's been 7 or 8 years since we've been to camp.
I believe that at least half of the campers are people who weren't there when we were there. Maybe more. I also understand that the campers are much better singers and players now.
If I was a camper....I'd take Reba's class on singing. Country music is very close to folk music. The only difference is...to be a country singer...you have to come across as a hick. I hope someone here will take Reba's class....I'd like to know what she teaches.
