There was a thread below about Bob's banjos and what songs he played them on etc .... I haven't been here for awhile, so I thought I'd post an answer here with a new post.
Bob owned a Bacon and Day "Silver Belle" plectrum banjo in the early days. He played it on TD and used it for other studio cuts that required his banjo playing. He used it at The Hungry i as well as other live recordings and performances until he bought the Vega pictured on the cover of "String Along". He more than likely bought the Vega long before the String Along LP was recorded. My hunch is that "A Worried Man" features the Vega because it has a brighter sound than the B and D had. The Vega he bought was not a fancy banjo. Basic, in fact, without a tube-a-phone tone ring. Probably the equivalent to a "folklore" model 5 string. He replaced it very shortly after with an upgraded tube-a-phone banjo that had three rectangle inlays and dots on the fretboard. He bought this banjo before Dave left, and used it through the Stewart years. The banjo he plays at the reunion concert at Magic Mountain looks like the same banjo.
His bacon and day banjo can be seen in a very early publicity shot taken when they were VERY young. It's a very rare photo. I saw it once on ebay ... and bid on it, but some guy named debobwan beat me out. Perhaps if he reads this, he could post the photo.
Bob .... are you listening?
