Sorry to be so long responding but I had some surgery on my hand two days after my return to San Diego. Moving my fingers to type is not too comfy yet so that's my story and I'm stickin' to it.
The cruise was great. There were a few hic cups the first day but the cruise company handled everything perfectly. Normally ashore I tend to do my own thing but this time I signed up for tours at every stop. Highlight of Puerto Vallarta was the tour which included the tequilla factory and tasting session! My date doesn't drink so I had to sip hers. My favorite was a blue Agave that tasted much like Ameretto, the almond liquor. Very smooth with no "whiskey burn" down your throat...blew me away! I bought a bottle! Saw the tile factory and watched the hand painting being done...busy place! Saw where Night Of The Iguana was filmed and where the "great shack up" took place!
Lemmie see, Mazatlan...we took the walking tour of old Matzalan. That was probably the best of the tours as far as history and information learned, but c'mon...tequilla!!
At Cabo, well what's to see in Cabo, right? Okay, there's the arch and Seņor Frog's, but nonetheless we took the tour up the coast to Todos Santos. For you Eagle fans, the group, not football...we had lunch at the Hotel California. Yes! That Hotel California. It is a wonderful old hotel flawlessly maintained, spectacular in its brightly multi colored light fixtures to go with multi colored ceiling panels. Food was pretty good too! Great little sleepy town with a direct highway to both Cabo and La Paz on the gulf. Several of the kids I grew up with live there today...didn't see them!
Okay, the cruising. I read an entire book, whale watched the entire way sighting many pods. We saw a dolphin (are they pods too?) city moving all around the ship and was at least a quarter mile square of dancing dolphins...I took some pictures but none came out well enough to see anything...just looks like rough sea white caps...I digress. I ate my fill, had ice cream every day (soft serve counts too,) stayed off the elevators (we were on deck 10)and walked at least five laps every day. I had wine with every meal and went through about six bottles of Cab/Merlot. That was pretty much the extent of my drinking all week, uh, well there was that one umbrella drink on the fantail...the upshot is that I got off the ship six pounds lighter than when I got on. (I'm pleased to say four of them came back when I got back to my six glasses of water a day.)
So, ...when, I ask, will be the passenger talent show...oh so sorry sir, this cruise isn't long enough for that...so there you have it. No show, but I played music every day just the same. I usually set up right near the dock to pan handle!!! Jus' kiddin'...but we had some sing alongs that got to be fun poolside...
They flew in a comedian to appear one night and he was insanely funny. Using the cruise ship experience for fodder he brought the house down with laughter. Right after the show he got off and flew to another ship for Holland America. Oh, one last thing. For those of you who sailed with us on the Hawaii cruise, you'll be surprised to know that the MS VEENDAM is just a minature ZAANDAM with all the same perks like Pinacle Grill, etc. I was right at home in no time...so why did I keep going the wrong way to find things??? No, I didn't have any of those meds along with me...it wasn't that??? aloha, mikey
ps...the dining and showrooms were on opposite ends of the ship than Zaandam!
