What I can't figure out is all the resentment heaped on Glenn Branca here and in the NYTimes. It's an opinion piece, not a manifesto. Branca's not a corporate musical behemoth, and definitely not a record company executive. So WTF? People do seem to have missed (bigtime) the irony in his article.
As for differences in the social and antisocial nature of composing, seems there's isolation inherent in composing..and not in performing, whether it's one guy singing or 200 guitars strumming.
Seems to me that Branca is still in essence an indie artist. The attempts to hold him responsible for the corporate sins of the music business are ridiculous,
