Schizophrenia, Hallucinogens, & Ego Loss
Dopamine had traditionally been linked to Schizophrenia – some have theorized that the Schizophrenic's hallucinations consist of an out of control Ego expressing itself.
Dopamine represents the Ego, the mechanism of projection within the human mind. It forces identifications: What one takes pride in, one is impressed by in others. What one is ashamed of, one is disgusted by when witnessed outside one's self.
The Ego constantly diverts attention between an emotional interplay, to protect itself. It is the False Control Center, an imprint that dominates one's behavior and interferes with self programming abilities.
One explanation for the hallucinations of Psychedelic Drugs and Schizophrenia: A supercharged imagination dominated by the human ego. Inevitable identifications are exaggerated, amplified, and expressed artistically. An interplay of desires, fears, secret humiliations, and conscious thoughts, stuck in impulse mode – a thought process that cannot be stilled, divided attention: manifests as hallucinations.
If the Ego is overcome, in theory, this artistic expression no longer happens because of the interferences of the False Control Center – Lack of identification, indiscriminate love, prevents hallucinations from occurring. Hallucinations cannot be induced by fear, pride, anger, shame, disgust, or a confusing emotional interplay, and mania cannot be induced through drug use.
Mania: When the Ego persists, it is inevitably amplified by heightened states of pleasure, resulting in impulsiveness – pride & aggressive behavior.
Regardless of whether the Mystic indulges in hallucinogenic drugs, or achieves higher vibrational states of consciousness via Meditation alone, it is not safe to pass beyond a certain point without transcending the Ego: Schizophrenia has been caused by, & cured by, mystical practices separate from any indulgence in drug use.
A Good Parent personality type would experience the least danger forging ahead recklessly: An ego with a generally fearless, loving attitude.
A psychedelic trip is useful at moderate dosages, toward transcending the ego, for the same reason dream interpretation is useful: Subconscious attention can be deciphered from a distance, through symbols, until such a time as it can be accessed honestly and directly. It is probably influenced powerfully by preceding expectation: an increase in imaginative potency likely amplifies placebo affect.
The problem with this kind of trip is, there is such a likelihood of trauma and flashback syndrome, the more so the more potent the dosage taken. Psychedelics gradually increase neural activity, and if the kind of activity inspired consists of powerful Ego driven hallucinations, it can cause lasting damage. The neural pathways opened probably remain somewhat open.
All of these things derive from the lowest classification of psychedelic voyage, and I consider many of the other kinds of hallucinations experienced on LSD the inevitable result of exposure to higher vibrational levels of consciousness: A perception of vibrating patterns, astral travel, quantum and DNA/RNA memories.
Interestingly, 5-htp has been shown to reduce symptoms of Schizophrenia and LSD psychosis – and 5-htp increases Serotonin while decreasing Dopamine.
Dissociative Psychedelics
I think certain kinds of hallucinogens induce a survival mode state of consciousness wherein fear-based hallucinations result.
Paranoia, demonstrated to increase susceptibility to hallucinations by Salvidor Dali, may induce hallucinations because earlier stages of species survival required the animals who saw a lion in the distance the most often survived, whether the lion was there or not. This may have gradually increased the fill-in-the-blank mechanism of Fear, making it a more powerful force of projection than other emotions.
Of course, even Hallucinogenic Mushrooms can trigger a fear-based psychosis if intense fear is triggered by the profound shift in consciousness – or by the circumstances surrounding the psychedelic experience – or if it was there to begin with, and the drug merely amplifies its affects.
