First I don't go to see a Tarentino movie for a grand metaphor on life. I go to see it for the "cinemaphile" way he directs. His work becomes a grand mish mash of his take on some of his favorite films. I don't consider it stealing, though I understand why some do. Going back on topic here though, "but I think it's pretty clear that the movie ultimately condones the torture and ritual scarring of enemies." Is that really what the movie is saying, or are you applying a fictional movie to real life? Not every movie is American History X, Children of Men, or something equally having a social critique. Do you look for the real life metaphors in Oceans Eleven, Sin City, The Big Lebowski, or Reservoir Dogs ?
You say "That's blatantly false and people wouldn't exhibit such bloodlust so comfortably while viewing the movie if the historical connection weren't there" But if the history connects us to those exploitation genres of cinema, I dont see why it should be admonished.
