I've been thinking about what John said. I decided that because this substance is quite powerful, it is obviously not a "party drug", nor should it ever be taken socially nor lightly, nor should it be ingested by unsuspecting or clueless individuals--in particular, minors without the slightest knowledge about what they're getting into.
I thought long and hard about it--and decided John made a compelling point, about some kid stumbling across my blog, and for whatever reasons, thinking it was "cool" or whatnot--might decide to go ahead and try it. That doesn't sit right with me.
Salvia divinorum is something for serious practitioners only. If you're meant to experience it--you'll be guided to it under your own power; you don't need some blog up there to incidentally tip you off that it might be "fun". What I experienced--complete ego dissolution, however momentary--was not "fun". It was more like panicked terror, and total loss of control over motor skills. [I did manage to get ahold of myself, and have benefited from the experiencee--I don't regret taking it. It was endlessly fascinating to me. I have learned something from it, but I probably won't ever do it again.] And different people react completely differently to it. Some people literally take off like jackrabbits--and could seriously harm themselves or even die by running out into traffic, etc.
It should be relegated strictly for shamanic journeys of a serious kind, for healing, or other spiritual purposes sought out by either advanced practitioners, or someone in need of that sort of thing who can be watched over and properly assisted. I decided there was no way I was going to take the slightest chance that my casual salvia blog entry might influence anyone to try it out for themselves in an improper or unprepared manner.
