Posted by Emily on 5/3/2005, 3:51 pm In: Valdosta, Ga. Childhood Heroes: "I didn't really have any." Hobbies/Interests: "Hunting and fishing." Nicknames: "Just J.D., that's it." Favorite Movies: "I like all movies, I don't really necessarily have any kind of favorite. I enjoy going to the movies and watching just about anything." Favorite TV Show: "'24' has been my favorite over the last couple of years." Musical Tastes: "Christian contemporary, some country, stuff like that." First Job: "Working on the farm." First Car: "I had a red Dodge pick-up truck, like a little small one, like a Ram 50." Early Baseball Memory: "Started when I was 12. Just playing in the All-Star Game, hitting a couple of home runs I guess. Long time ago." Pregame Feeling: "Just trying to get focused. It's a long grind over 162. So you just try to keep yourself focused, getting ready for your at-bats and playing defense." Favorite Meal: "I don't know, that's a tough ... I have a bunch of 'em ... probably pizza now. I eat a lot of pizza." Favorite Breakfast Cereal: "Not a big breakfast guy." Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: "Not an ice cream guy either." Greatest Sports Moment: "Just making it to the big leauges. September the 8th of 1998, McGwire hit No. 62 and I was there. So that was cool." Most Painful Moment: "Knee injury." Closest Baseball Friends: "Bunch of guys. I'm close with a bunch of players I 've played with. Mike Matheny would be one that comes to mind." Funniest Players: "Eddie Perez is pretty good at keeping the team loose." Toughest Competitors: "Tough to say, a lot of guys compete hard out there." Favorite Uniforms: "As far as what I've played in? (No, any uniform.) I like the Braves throwbacks we played in every now and then." Funny Baseball Memory: "There's some funny things that have happened sometimes. It's just hard to ... I don't think that I laughed about 'em at the time ... you have to look back and laugh on them. Kind of tough, you don't want to laugh at your own teammates sometimes ... sometimes you want to, though." Favorite Vacation Spot: "Probably I'd have to go to the mountains somewhere." Favorite Ballpark: "I enjoyed playing in Boston. That was pretty cool." Favorite Athletes To Watch: "I've always liked watching Barry Bonds, ever since I was younger. As far as just an overall, all-around player. He's done some amazing things in the game. (NBA?) I grew up watching [Michael] Jordan more than anybody. But I didn't watch a lot of basketball. I wouldn't sit down and watch basketball unless he was in it. (NFL?) Brett Favre. (Tennis?) [Andre] Agassi. I like to watch Agassi. His returns. It doesn't matter how hard you hit it, he's gonna return it. (Golf?) [Phil] Mickelson. (Auto racing?) NASCAR. I haven't followed it a whole lot. I enjoy watching it. I just don't have a favorite in it." People Qualities Most Admired: "I think honesty and being humble, sincere. I think those are big qualities."
