Posted by Jan <<< Please review the attached jpeg. It tells the story... A karting program has benefits that I know has saved young drivers lives on the street. Its a shame it is no longer possible on Vancouver Island to provide young drivers the skills that karting provides. My son (Dayn) is the one in the pictures. He reminds me constantly how he and his fellow karting friends have found how their karting experience has taught them "instinct" that has saved them on the street. Instinct like that can not be tought in driver school or in video games! He tells me he is afraid to drive with most young people he knows because they lack the instinct and sense of awareness that karting taught him. Dayn was close to at least 4 young kids that were killed in the last two years on Vancouver Island. He is too young to have to be attending funerals for his friends.. There is a team of very dedicated people who would jump at the opportunity to rebuild the karking-for kids-program. It was a very strong program with the local club on the island over the past 15 years, however community leader have shut down the last of the facilites, and the program has sadly, ended.. ...like they say "if it saves one kid, it is worth every penny and inconvenience". All it would take is to be able to re-open one of the two facilities or find about 10 acres of fairly flat land, and the karting organizations would do the rest. The local karting organization is recognized and respected by the FIA and ASN, the national motorsports governing authorities. just my 0.02 thank you for reading... Jan Hoel, Victoria BC
