Posted by Dan Clements I am concerned about membership continuing to drop and feel this is related obviously to the lack of a track, but also to a degree to the difficulty for those of us outside the Duncan area to participate in the affairs of CCKC. I am also concerned about executive burnout, and repetitiveness (this is in no way a criticism of existing executive), how ever it is virtually impossible for anyone living and working outside the Duncan area to be on the executive, and I fear some may be on the executive only because no one else is willing or able. I see no point in changing the name of our club unless we make it possible for all island racers to participate in club affairs. It is simply not feasible for me and many others from outside the Duncan area to drive for up to six or seven hours to attend the AGM let alone participate on committees or regular club meetings. If we can accomplish this, and we become Vancouver Island Kart Club we should look to areas outside the Duncan Area for a track site, at one time I believe more than half the members of CCKC were from Nanaimo north, so how about a track located near the Cumberland Courtenay area? This is only an hour’s drive north from Nanaimo and a little over two hours north of Victoria. Even the Campbell River area has possibilities; it is only a half hour north of Courtenay. Should we establish a track in the Cumberland Courtenay or Campbell River area, when membership grows again we could start saving for a second track on the south island. Dan Clements

I cannot attend the AGM, so I am posting my thoughts/concerns here in the hope that someone able to attend may voice them for me.
Could we not have a site accessible only by password that only club members could access, on such a site members could make motions say within the 24 hours proceeding a meeting date, motions made at a meeting could be added within 24 hours of meeting ending and then all members could vote on motions within the 24 hours following the posting of all motions.
While it may sound complicated, it is not, and it would allow all members to participate.
If it requires a change to our constitution to accomplish this then we should proceed in that direction.
I believe, build a track and the racers will come, remember the growth we had in Piston Port at Youbou, most of those racers were from Nanaimo north!
The point here is no track no club the future is that simple, I don’t believe we have time on our side, if there is no track in the works for racing in 2007, karting on Vancouver Island is dead.
I welcome any and all constructive responses to my posting.
