Malinke became confused. Past? There was nothing wrong with her past that she could think of. What would a past do to a person anyway? The smokey gray became calmer, but she still kept her eyes to the ground. "Can ... we pick flowers? Later ... so we can give them to the wolves when they come ... back?" Malinke wondered if Crepuscule and Seg abandoned her so she could be with Gabriel instead. She still felt like a child and not an adult yet. Maybe they had made a mistake.
