This was all very irritating.
The tip of Crepuscule's tail twitched. From the cliff of frozen rock he sneered at the scene before him. It seemed that he had gotten a delayed April Fools joke this morning. Over three inches of snow covered the pack land. It was noon now, and most of it was melting, but it was still irritating. Very irritating.
Where was Seg right now? Crepuscule had a thing or two to say to him, things about Sen. He also wondered where Malinke was. That dragon was so daft. Every day she seemed to get lost.
As if sensing her adoptive father's impatience, the Smokey gray dragon crept out from the pine trees below the cliff. Since she hatched she had grown remarkably. Already she was six months old, and in two months she would be old enough to breed. However, despite the nearness of adulthood, the gray dragon still had a childish innocence. Not once had she hunted for her self, she hadn't even eaten the worms wriggling out of the soil during April showers. Her diet consisted only of the carrion left behind by wolves.
Crepuscule barked and the dragon looked up him, startled. The wolf climbed down from the cliff, careful not to slip on the melting ice. When he reached her he said nothing, nor did she. Malinke could sense that Crepuscule was bitter this morning, although she wasn't sure why. There was more snow to play in, what is there to be bitter about?
"Malinke," Crepuscule growled. The dragon looked down at him. Already she was big enough to be a challenge. "We need to discuss some things."
Tilting her head to the side, Malinke's yellow eyes blinked curiously.
"You are almost of age Malinke, but I've noticed that you don't act your age." Crepuscule bit his lip. "Maybe you need to be acquainted with some ... male dragons, or at least anyone else of your age."
"Oh, no, Mis'a. I'm fine with friends like Tethe, Kana, Katana and Karasu. They're nice." Malinke picked up some snow with her black talons. She made a crude snowball and ate it.
"None of them are dragons though," Crepuscule growled. He frowned. "Seg has some dragons, I think, and I wanted to talk to him. Maybe they can make you more ..." He wanted to say ferocious, but then Malinke would never agree. "Never mind, just stay here with me. We'll wait for Seg and arrange a meeting after I pick a few bones from him."
The two of them sat, Crepuscule more bitter than ever, and Malinke was greatly worried.
