I worked at Myers & Wills Motion Picture Livestock in Lakeview Terrace, CA. Pie was owned by Stevie Myers. Yes, Pie was ridden by Yul brenner in the Magnificent Seven - while James Stewart was in Europe. Normaly, he was the only star to ride Pie. Mr. Stewart did nor own Pie, however, Stevie considered him to be the only person to ride Pie except her. Mr. Stewrt was VERY upset when he returned & found out that Mr. Brenner had ridden Pie.
I was with Pie when he died of old-age related colic - he was well over 30 years old.
