I was shocked not to see the artist who made the statue of Brighty named. His name is (or was - I have lost touch with him and his wife) Peter Jepsen - wife Kathy - and they lived in Jerome, Arizona when he sculpted Brighty. He also made some statues that were small copies of the little burro. The statue was commissioned by the producer of the movie and given to the children of the United States by him. Brighty was originally exhibited in the main administration/museum but was moved to a storeroom when the Park Service was trying to cull the wild burros in the Canyon and were afraid it would cause too much sympathy for them to have Brighty on exhibit (I got this information from the Park superintendent in 1977).
