Posted by Robert on 5/2/2007, 6:27 pm, in reply to "Re: Happy is the man whose sins are atoned for" When I read, “But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness,” it made me think of preachers in churches that do indeed preach about salvation by grace but then turn right around telling their listeners how they must tithe and attend regularly or burn in hell. But this is blindness, is it not? – very sad to see. It seems that it would take only a little searching in the Word, a little thought, and prayer to fully appreciate all that His grace means. God enables his called and chosen ones to find truth. Even when the law of Moses was first given, and all who heard of it must have been at least initially astonished at how extensive and difficult a law it was, what was needed at that time? Just the same – some searching of Psalms, a little thought of how great the law was and how weak the flesh is, and prayer. Then a person could realize that the demands of the law put him/her in sin and that reliance on God for forgiveness was the key to salvation. God would reveal the spiritual and symbolic side of the law over time. Then, the law would be a source of knowledge that would grow over one’s lifetime. That is why David rejoiced over the law: Open thou mine eyes, that I may discern wondrous things out of thy law. (Ps 119:18) Thy hands have made me and formed me: give me understanding, that I may learn thy commandments….Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my great delight. (Ps 119:73,77) The righteousness of thy testimonies is everlasting: give me understanding, and I shall live. (Ps 119:144) The righteous shall see it, and rejoice: and all iniquity shall stop her mouth. But what was true then is true today in regards all the many epistles and gospels we have now. We can search and gain knowledge and then watch the “difficult” passages become gems and the keys to our understanding!
