You wrote, "I still can't see that His second coming has anything to do with our hope". The two Greek words that are used in the prison epistles (but not exclusively in the prison epistles) are "epipheneia" and "phaneroo". Both are said to be connected with the time of Christ's parousia. The parousia is one of the words used to describe the second coming of Christ. II Thess. 2:8 reads, "And then shall that wicked be revealed, whom the Lord shall consume with the spirit of His mouth, and shall destroy with the epipheneia of His parousia". That tells us that the antichrist will be destroyed. How? by the epipheneia of Christ. When will that epipheneia be seen? at Christ's parousia. You can't separate that which will destroy the antichrist (the epipheneia) from the the time of the destruction of the antichrist, i.e. the parousia. Why cant you? Because II Thess. 2:8 tells us how and when, and they are connected in this verse. I Jn. 2:28 tells us that the phaneroo is connected in time to the parousia. "And now little children, abide in Him; that when He shall appear (phaneroo), we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before Him at His coming (parousia)". In short, our hope is the epipheneia and the phaneroo, both are connected in time to the parousia. In Christ,
