Posted by Joyce on 3/21/2007, 7:59 pm, in reply to "His Appearing and His Coming" First you wrote that "epipheneia" was used only in the prison epistles and then you wrote that it is used in II Thess. 2:8, which is, as you know, not a prison epistle. Therefore, you seem to have disproved your first premise yourself. You wrote of the use of "epipheneia" in II Thess. 2:8 that it "is not used to replace parousia but to better characterize it." I agree, the word does characterize the parousia. But if it characterizes the parousia it is a different ASPECT of the parousia, not a totally different event. As far as I can see, you have not given any scriptural evidence that proves that the epipheneia and the parousia are different events. May I respecfully suggest that each of the five Greek words used in connection with the second coming of Christ describe a different aspect, or if you prefer, a different characterization of the same event. You say that we shouldn't neglect the forest for the sake of one tree, i.e. II Thess. 2:8. But this is the Word of God we're talking about. In the Word of God there is no forest OR a tree, it all fits together perfectly. And if it doesn't, then we are not seeing it correctly. You wrote, "The separation of His “coming” described in the books during the Acts period, and His “appearing” in Paul's last 7 books is quite pronounced to anyone who has searched it out'. To summarize: 1) "Epipheneia" is used in the prison episltes and "characterizes" (your word) the parousia in II Thess. 2:8. 2)"Phaneroo" is also used in the prison epistles and also characteizes the parousia in I John 2:28. doesn't make better sense to say that these five Greek words used ot describe His coming characterize the same event? In Christ,

Dear Lynn,
But the Greek word "phaneroo" is used in the prison epistles and also in Acts period epistles. The Greek word "phaneroo" is found in Col. 3:4, "when Christ, Who is our life shall appear then we shall appear with Him in glory". And in Acts period epistles. I John 2:28 is important in that it tells us when this appearing (phaneroo) will occur. "And now, dear children, continue in Him, so that when he appears (phaneroo) we may be confident and unashamed before him at his coming (parousia)". The "phaneroo" is at His coming. "Phaneroo" is that aspect of His coming that tells us that that which had been hidden will be made manifest at His coming.
