Posted by Chris (H3034 - to revere or worship - with extended hands) Looking back to verses 31-35:- (Gen 29:33) And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, ‘Because the LORD hath heard that I was hated, he hath therefore given me this son also‘: and she called his name Simeon. (Simeon = ‘hearing’) (Gen 29:34) And she conceived again, and bare a son; and said, ‘Now this time will my husband be joined unto me, because I have born him three sons:’ therefore was his name called Levi. (Levi = ‘Joiner‘) Gen 29:35) And she conceived again, and bare a son: and she said, ‘Now will I praise the LORD‘: therefore she called his name Judah; and left bearing. (Judah = ‘Praise’) This seems to me so full of significance “Now will I praise the Lord.” - and left bearing for a time. It just seemed that in simply praising God instead of looking for favour with her husband a goal had been reached. It was as though an important lesson had been learned, now her eyes were on the Lord - His praise in her mouth, and from the fullness of her heart her mouth spoke. I am reminded of (Isaiah 51:5,6) “For thy Maker is thine husband; the Lord of Hosts is His Name; and Thy Redeemer (Kinsman Redeemer) the Holy One of Israel; The God of the whole earth shall He be called. For the Lord hath called thee as a woman forsaken and grieved in spirit, and a wife of youth, when thou wast refused,” saith thy God. (Forgive me if I am wrong to make this application) Continuing on with the theme of ‘Praise’ with Gen 29:35 now, (Judah he shall be praised - H3034) . In the marginal notes of the CB. reference is made to Gen.49:8 (Gen 49:8-10) Judah, thou art he whom thy brethren shall praise: thy hand shall be in the neck of thine enemies; thy father's children shall bow down before thee. Judah is a lion's whelp: from the prey, my son, thou art gone up: he stooped down, he couched as a lion, and as an old lion; who shall rouse him up? The Sceptre shall not depart from Judah, nor a lawgiver from between his feet (his thighs = his seed), until Shiloh come; and unto him shall the gathering (obedience, submission) of the people be. Hear we see the titles of Christ, who of the line of Judah was his Seed in a special way. In the margin of the CB is listed the titles of Christ given in the Pentatuach:- a. The sceptre shall not depart from Judah, Reading ‘a’ with ‘a’ and ‘b’ with ‘b‘, so (CB): Reading it this way brings out the sense (just as an aside) though we would not by any means alter the wording of scripture. (Isa 9:6) For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. (Isa 9:7) Of the increase of his government and peace there shall be no end, upon the throne of David, and upon his kingdom, to order it, and to establish it with judgment and with justice from henceforth even for ever. The zeal of the LORD of hosts will perform this. (Isa 42:1) Behold my servant, whom I uphold; mine elect, in whom my soul delighteth; I have put my spirit upon him: he shall bring forth judgment to the Gentiles. (Jer 23:5) Behold, the days come, saith the LORD, that I will raise unto David a righteous Branch, and a King shall reign and prosper, and shall execute judgment and justice in the earth. (Jer 33:17) For thus saith the LORD; David shall never want a man to sit upon the throne of the house of Israel; (Zec 6:12) And speak unto him, saying, Thus speaketh the LORD of hosts, saying, Behold the man whose name is The BRANCH; and he shall grow up out of his place, and he shall build the temple of the LORD: (Zec 6:13) Even he shall build the temple of the LORD; and he shall bear the glory, and shall sit and rule upon his throne; and he shall be a priest upon his throne: and the counsel of peace shall be between them both.
