Posted by Chris on 3/10/2007, 4:09 am, in reply to "Re: Potter/Pots" Looking at your reference to man's inventions you know the verse that came to my mind don't you? (Eccl.7:29) - As I could not remember it properly or where it could be found I looked it up and found the following:- This psalm is so good I wanted to include all of it but, thought better of it because of space, [H5949 alîylâh ‛ălilâh (al-ee-law', al-ee-law') - From H5953 in the sense of effecting; an exploit (of God), or a performance (of man, often in a bad sense); by implication an opportunity: - act (-ion), deed, doing, invention, occasion, work.] [H4611 ma‛ălâl (mah-al-awl') - From H5953; an act (good or bad): - doing, endeavour, invention, work.] Looking through this psalm you are left in no doubt as to the 'inventions' referred to. The Lord's patience is manifest also in enduring the fickleness of the people. His faithfulness to the promises made to their Fathers was tried and not found wanting, His promises are indeed 'Yea' and 'Amen' no matter what the provocation. How great and wonderful is our God! (Pro 8:12) I wisdom dwell with prudence, and find out knowledge of witty INVENTIONS. H4209 mezimmâh (mez-im-maw') - From H2161; a plan, usually evil (machination), sometimes good (sagacity): - (wicked) device, discretion, intent, witty invention, lewdness, mischievous (device), thought, wickedly. Oh, this Psalm is so lovely eg., (Ecc 7:29) Lo, this only have I found, that God hath made man upright; but they have sought out many INVENTIONS. (This is the one I was looking for) H2810 chishshâbôn (khish-shaw-bone') - From H2803; a contrivance, that is, actual (a warlike machine) or mental (a machination): - engine, invention. The different Hebrew words translated 'invention' are interesting arn't they, this last one is the only one, I believe, which can be used of an invention such as you describe. Thank you again Lynn. Dear Lynn,
Thank you for your response, for again, you have led me on a journey filled with joyous discoveries - Praise God !
(Psa 99:8) Thou answeredst them, O LORD our God: thou wast a God that forgavest them, though thou tookest vengeance of their INVENTIONS (H5949).
---------------------------
(Psa 106:29) Thus they provoked him to anger with their INVENTIONS (H4611): and the plague brake in upon them.
(Psa 106:39) Thus were they defiled with their own works, and went a whoring with their own INVENTIONS.

Wisdom cries out:-
"All the words of my mouth are in righteousness; there is nothing froward or perverse in them. They are ll plain to him that understandeth, and right to them that find knowledge. Receive my instruction, and not silver; and knowledge ather than choice gold. For wisdom is better than rubies; and all the things that may be desired are not to be compared to it."
Christ is the sum of all wisdom isn't He.
