Posted by Chris on 2/24/2007, 5:18 am, in reply to "Re: Acts 13:14 "Beware Lest"" Thank you for responding to my post. I must admit though, that whenever I see your name come up in reply to something that I have submitted, my heart beats twice as fast (!) because you are always challenging, but I thank you for it Joyce. I see what you are saying Joyce. I took my thinking from the Companion Bible marginal notes against Isaiah 6:9,10. As follows, (Isa 6:9,10) " And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not.Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed." Written seven times in all: Matt.13:14; Mark 4:12; Luke 8:10; John12:40; Acts 28:26,27; Rom.11:8; In the CB margin it states that on three of these occassions it is quoted at a moment of dispensational crises: (Quote) 1) By Christ (Matt.13:14), as coming from Jehovah on the day a council was held "to destroy Him". 2) By Christ, as coming from Messiah in His glory (John 12:40,41) after counsel taken to "put Him to death" (John 11:53, and cp. 12:37) 3) By Paul, as coming from the Holy Ghost when, after a whole day's conference, they "believed not" (Acts 28:25-27) I don't identify myself with the catagory 'Acts 28 community' only with 'The Church which is His Body'- I can understand why there is seen to be a need to raise a 'standard' such as this for those of like mind to rally around, but like the 'standards' raised by rival armies in times of war - a battle inevitably ensues. Wether this is justified in order to establish truth, or an inevitable consequence of unbelief or blindness on the part of those who do not see the actions and words spoken on that occassion by Paul to be significant I cannot say, I just find the whole debate and it's consequences regretable. With love to you in our Lord
