Posted by Chris on 2/22/2007, 2:28 pm In Acts 13:40 Paul tells those Jews of the dispersion who were listening to him to 'Beware lest that come upon you, which is spoken of in the prophets' "Behold ye despisers, and wonder, and perish: for I work a work in your days, a work which ye shall in no wise believe, though a man declare it unto you" (Quoted from Habakkuk 1:5) This was a warning only, it was later at Acts 28 that what Paul had warned them of came to pass. Until I saw this I had a niggle in my mind about the fact that Paul went on to say later in verse 46 'Lo we turn to the Gentiles', and I can understand why people are confused concerning just when Israel were set aside. The fact that miracles and signs continued right up until Acts 28 is a strong evidential factor too of course, and the repetition of the quote from Isaiah:- (Isa 6:9,10) " And he said, Go, and tell this people, Hear ye indeed, but understand not; and see ye indeed, but perceive not. (10) Make the heart of this people fat, and make their ears heavy, and shut their eyes; lest they see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and convert, and be healed." Written as it is seven times in scripture it is indeed an extreemely signifant quote. (Isa 6:9,10; Matt 13:14; Mark 4:12; Luke 8:10; John 12:40; Acts 28:26,27; Romans 11:8) Quoted at three times of dispensational crises:- Matt 13 - Quoted by our Lord Jesus Christ (When a council was held which plotted to destroy Him) John 12:40,41 - Again quoted by the Lord (after counsel taken to put Him to death) Thanks
