Posted by Chris The old hymn so familiar to most has been on my mind this morning,“Tell me the Old, Old Story”, and although a lot of the old hymns of my childhood have been found wanting, in that they contain more of sentiment than truth, there are also many gems. If you don’t mind I would like to put the words to it here. Tell me the Old, Old Story Tell me Old, old, Story, Tell me the Story slowly, Tell me the Story softly, Tell me the same Old Story, This is all we need to hear at any time, in any situation - just to have someone turn our eyes upon the Lord and His goodness, mercy and grace. Looking in the Berean Hymn book (now out of date) I found a similar one. Tell me of Jesus the Lord, and His love, Tell of the wonderful power of His grace, Tell of His majesty, glory and might, Tell of the Father, all-powerful One, “Faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Romans 10:17 Ringing my sister first thing this morning, knowing her husband was on his way to have his daily treatment for prostate cancer, and she would be alone. Thinking that she would be down in spirit, and would need me. I was greeted by a voice full of positive notes and words that showed forth the Lord’s enabling and keeping power. Praise to Him poured out in wonder and in joy, that He was providing all that she could possibly need. I heard the Old, Old Story from one whom I thought would need to hear it from me, and my heart was lifted up, and my eyes placed on the one who is powerfully able to save - to the uttermost. Hello there everyone,
Of unseen things above,
Of Jesus and His glory,
Of Jesus and His love.
Tell me the Story simply,
As to a little child,
For I am weak and weary,
And helpless and defiled.
Of Jesus and His love.
That I may take it in -
That wonderful redemption,
God’s remedy for sin,
Tell me the Story often,
For I forget so soon;
The “early dew” of morning
Has passed away at noon.
With earnest tones and grave;
Remember! I’m the sinner
Whom Jesus came to save.
Tell me that Story always,
If you would really be
in any time of trouble
A comforter to me.
When you have cause to fear
That this world’s empty glory
Is costing me too dear.
Yes, and when that world’s glory
is dawning on my soul.
Tell me the Old, Old Story:
“Christ Jesus makes thee whole.”
Tell how He left all the glory above,
Tell how He came poor lost sinners to save,
Tell how He’s victor o’er death and the grave.
Tell how He’s willing to grant us a place,
Tell how in heaven we with Him shall shine,
Tell how He sheds forth His Spirit divine.
Tell how the angels all bow in His sight,
Tell of His mercy, His kindness and pow’r,
Tell how He keeps us from hour to hour.
Tell how His will is fulfilled in the Son,
Tell how all people His great name shall praise,
Tell out His goodness from age unto age.
By His grace
Chris
