Posted by Joyce on 11/20/2006, 3:18 pm, in reply to "Election, Pre-destination, & Foreknowledge" In my opinion, the passage in Rom. 9 about the twins says that it is NOT because of anything either would do, but it is the sovereignty of God that determind the choice. The passage of Rom. 9:11-13 is about God's sovereign will. If we say that His choice was based on the future acts of each twin then we are taking the sovereignty out of God's hands and putting it in man's. Verse 11, "....that the purpose of God according to election might stand, NOT OF WORKS, but of Him that calleth. In other words, the future works of either twin had nothing to do with God's choice. His choice was based soley on His sovereign choice REGARDLESS OF WORKS. Also, if we take God's choice as dependant on man's works then the question of verse 14 makes no sense, "What shall we say then? Is there unrighteousness with God?". My point is that if Jacob was chosen because of what he would do in the future, then there would be no question of whether God was righteous because Jacob had earned his choice. But the question was asked because Jacob was God's choice and it was not earned. In Christ,
