Posted by Lynn on 11/14/2006, 11:52 am, in reply to "Re: Rewards" My original post was simply a word study of the plural of "rewards" that I found a surprise.Since you quoted 1 Cor 3, I would like to respond. The beginning of the chapter is very similar to Heb 5:13,14. 1Cor 3:1-3 "I have fed you with milk. and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able". Heb 5:14 The believers in the Acts period were expecting the coming of Christ and the day of the Lord. 1Cor 3:13 What and when is this trial by fire? 1Peter 1:7 1 Cor 4:5 1 Peter 4:12,17 Heb 12:6 The "reward" in the Acts dispensation was the kingdom of earth. Heb 3:6,9,11 Heb 12:27-29 2 Peter 3:10 also refers to the day of the Lord as a time when "the works that are therein [in the earth] shall be burned up". 1 Cor 3:11 All the things that MAN builds upon the sure foundation are perishable- gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, and stubble. The only "work that abides" is that which pertain to life: knowledge, diligence, faith, virtue, patience, godliness, kindness, love. 2 Peter 1:8 "For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ". A key thing to remember in 1Cor 3 is that even though those spoken to were "yet carnal" and "babes in Christ", they were still In Christ. Their imperfect works were built on a sure foundation. For this reason, they would be saved. The "loss" is similar to the "loss" mentioned by Paul. Php 3:8

Hello Chris and John,
But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of "use" have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
Every man's work shall be made manifest: for "the day" shall declare it, because "it shall be revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is".
That "the trial of your faith", being more precious than of gold that perisheth, "even though it be tried by fire", might be found unto praise and honor and glory "at the appearing of Jesus Christ".
"Therefore judge nothing before the time, "until the Lord come", who both will bring to light the hidden things of darkness, and will make manifest the counsels of the hearts"
"Beloved, think it not strange concerning 'the fiery trial' which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you:...For the time is come, that judgment must begin at the house of God"
For whom the Lord loveth he chasteneth, and scourgeth every son whom he receiveth.
But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end...There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. [1000year reign]...Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest"
And this word, Yet once more, signifies the "removing of those things that are shaken, as of things that are made", that those things which cannot be shaken may remain.
Wherefore we receiving a kingdom which cannot be moved, let us have grace, whereby we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear: "For our God is a consuming fire".
For other foundation can no man lay than that which is laid, which is Jesus Christ.
Yea, doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, "that I may win Him".
