Posted by Chris on 9/15/2006, 5:17 am, in reply to "Re: 'Of the same mind'" The mind of Christ was evidenced in our Lord’s purpose while here on earth wasn‘t it, to do the will of God the Father and to finish His Work. He said and did only those things that His Father said and did, He refused to act independently, even under the trials inflicted by Satan. In the wilderness and the garden of Gethsemane, or on the cross. His face was set like a flint, He turned neither to the right hand or to the left from the course set before Him. Paul had this ‘mind‘ too, to finish His course, to be faithful to Him that had called Him to a high and holy calling. So also in Phil.2 he urges ‘us’ to have the same mind. We do have the mind of Christ, but it is for us to appropriate it in our daily life and walk don't you agree. How is it evidenced? In lowliness and meekness, in faithfulness to God’s Word and Will. In seeking to be useful, we are sometimes in danger of being unfaithful. Where we are concerned it is the keeping of the unity of the Spirit with it’s sevenfold facet that is to be our mission in our endeavour to walk worthily. Your list of basic word meanings has a wealth of depths to be sort out and enjoyed Lynn, thank you for them, those in Romans particularly (as you say). In regard to being of one mind and heart, I read in Phil 4, of Paul’s admonition to the two ladies who had been of great help in his ministry to be of the same mind, and I wondered if the ‘same mind’ being referred to by Him was that of the previous chapters, rather than that they should just be in agreement. What do you think? These further thoughts came as a result of looking at, and thinking about your basic word list, Psa 48:9 represents the thoughts of one whose mind is stayed on Him - our thoughts are on His lovingkindness. Our estimation of the ways of the world are according to His estimate (Psa 73:17). We are made sensitive to what pleases Him (Psa 119:59) and let His Word be the plumbline by which we judge our actions and our thoughts. We know that He knows the way that we take (Psa. 139:2). We walk in the Spirit and do not mind the things of the flesh. We cast down imaginations and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bring into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ. Psa 49:11+ shows where the thoughts of 'those outside of Christ' are stayed - on the things of this world, on personal advancement and reputation etc., There are the refined desires of the mind as well as base, neither can please God. (Psa. 64:5,6) There is no awe of God to contain or correct. Oh, what wealth there is in God’s Word isn’t there, like living water constantly flowing for us to drink and be satisfied. Thank you again
