Posted by Chris on 8/16/2006, 6:38 am, in reply to "Milk/Meat" Milk is elementary Christian doctrine, the gospel narratives are a beginning. These elementary doctrines of Christ are foundational. The Lord told His disciples that He had many things to say which they were not able at that time to bear 'at that time'(John 16:13) but that the Holy Spirit when He came would take of the things of 'Himself' (our Lord), and make them theirs. So there was more truth to be revealed. We are urged to leave elementary truth and move on to truth for those who are mature, who are through frequent use able to understand from Scripture good from evil, not only morally but doctrinally too, by learning to 'rightly divide' the Word. Through the teaching of 'identification' in Romans we are able to grasp the truths of Ephesians and all the other prison epistles, take in and inwardly digest their truths to the glory of God. 'If God wills' - I say that because He knows what we can take at any given time, and we must not try to walk before we can crawl. If we eat what our stomach cannot take we are sick and so it is with doctrine that we are not ready for. So we quietly wait and trust in God to take us on to further truth in His time and in His way. He is faithful and will do it. Praise His Name Elle. Chris (Luk 12:42) And the Lord said, Who then is that faithful and wise steward, whom his lord shall make ruler over his household, to give them their portion of meat in due season? (Joh 4:32) But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of. (Joh 4:34) Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work. (Joh 6:27) Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed. (Joh 6:55) For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed. (1Co 3:2) I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able. (Heb 5:12-14) For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat. (1Pe 2:2) As newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby

Dear Elle,
References from the NT to Milk and Meat, some although seeming to have no relation are interesting:-
(13) For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.
(14) But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.
1Co 3:2) I have fed you with milk, and not with meat: for hitherto ye were not able to bear it, neither yet now are ye able.
