Posted by Chris on 8/11/2006, 5:39 am, in reply to "The Gospel of God" When I read the Epistles, it is very hard for me to move on from the introduction, because I just love the salutations at the beginning. Such as we have in Romans 1:1-4, "Paul, a servant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated unto the gospel of God, (Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures,) Concerning his Son Jesus Christ our Lord, which was made of the seed of David according to the flesh; And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead:" In replying to your posting I looked up Romans 1:1 with it’s reference to ‘the gospel of God’ and immediately got hooked on the wording of these verses, I just find them compelling. For example, In introducing himself we have, “Paul” - “a servant of Jesus Christ” - Such singleness of purpose. In the employ of the risen Lord! - Separated by a hand other than His own. By God Himself. Unto the ‘good news’ of God. “Which he had promised afore by his prophets in the holy scriptures” - That is very clear and concise, showing that it was no new thing that was to be made known here, but what was promised by God in the Old Testament scriptures “Concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord” “And declared to be the Son of God with power, according to the spirit of holiness, by the resurrection from the dead.” Wow, what a gospel this is, clearly defined and encompassed by this statement. Who can argue against this? What a wonderful Word of truth we have in the pages of our Bible. Which ‘hedges around’ the truths it contains in this way, so that there can be no misunderstanding or error if it is accepted in simple faith. I want to say so much more, but how can one follow what is written here in Romans 1:1-4, it says it all. Yours in Him Chris

Dear Lynn,
“called to be an apostle”
- Called for this one purpose. To herald the truth imparted to Him by the risen Lord. What authority this supposes.
“separated unto the gospel of God”
- What was this ‘good news’ ?
“made of the seed of David according to the flesh”
