Posted by Lynn on 7/30/2006, 9:32 am, in reply to "Re: The Latest Message" The commandments to follow the four laws mentioned in Acts 4:24 and to "have all things in common", were statutes set up by the apostles and elders and the brethren [the whole church] as well as the Holy Spirit. See Acts 15:19-29 The gifts of the Holy Spirit [speaking in tongues, healing, prophecy, etc.] as well as these commandments and ordinances ended at Acts 28:28 with the setting aside of Israel. Concerning the Old and New Covenant, I would like to quote an article in the Berean Expositor on the subject: "Paul reveals to us that the Old Covenant and the glory that accompanied it, was indeed wonderful, but that it was to pass away. This was dependent on the faithfulness of man to God. They failed, although the Old Covenant came with glory, but the glory of the Lord will remain for ever. Here is a glory that is not transient, because under the New Covenant its terms are dependent on God's faithfulness to man. Today the vail is still upon the heart of Israel, they are still under the Old Covenant awaiting their Messiah. Not until this vail of unbelief and hardness of heart is removed and they as a nation shall look upon Him Whom they pierced, and 'shall mourn for Him, as one mourneth for his only son'(Zech 12:10), will He come and set up His kingdom on the earth, and the New Covenant will bring the halcyon days for Israel." 2Cor 3&4 compares the Old Covenant with the New.

Dear Chris,
"For it seemed good to the Holy Ghost, and to us, [us being the apostles, elders and brethren] to lay upon you no greater burden than these necessary things;
That ye abstain from meats offered to idols, and from blood, and from things strangled, and from fornication: from which is ye keep yourselves, ye do well. (vs 28,29)
