Posted by Renee Bodie We are VERY excited about our upcoming show -for two VERY good reasons - First, we get to have with us with two ladies that completely delighted us the first time we saw them....ANTARA & DELILAH. Their upbeat energy and solid harmonies captivated us, and we just had to have them here! It comes as no surprise that this contemporary folk duo has been honored with the title "Best Local Band" by the Santa Barbara News-Press three years in a row (2001, 2002, and 2003). Their sound possesses the spirit of Seals & Croft, the innovation and humor of the Dixie Chicks, and the poetry of Dar Williams.... Antara & Delilah Bio: After five years of collaboration and two self-produced CDs (From Here, Finding inspiration in such artists as Joni Mitchell, Annie Lennox and Shawn Colvin, Antara & Delilah's music is characterized by lyrics springing from a deep sense of self. These lyrics, fused with distinctive harmonies and hook-laden melodies, carry the uncommon message of possibility. Antara & Delilah are counterbalance to the eminem's of this world. They serve as a conduit for catharsis to women and men alike who look towards the beauty of life. They offer a breath of fresh air and a warm invitation to take part (Robert Gottfried, Rob the Drummer). Their sound possesses the spirit of Seals & Croft, the innovation and humor of the Dixie Chicks, and the poetry of Dar Williams. The pair's pristine voices dovetail sweetly, forming radiant harmonies that infuse each song with supple feeling and sensitivity (Taylor Guitars', Discover the Indies). Beautiful harmonies aside, there is something pre-destined about Antara & Delilahs music--from their nearly simultaneous arrival in Santa Barbara in 1997 to their subsequent participation at a Jim Messina songwriting workshop. It was an evening of harmonizing to Beatles tunes that sealed their fate, and a duo was born There is a Japanese proverb that says, From music springs the world. Through their music, Antara & Delilah have given form to this proverb, lending their voices to organizations that work toward the goal of a better life for all. Organizations they have supported include the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation, the Community Environmental Council, California AIDS Ride, and most recently they lent their voices to the global peace movement, inspiring others with their song, We'll have Peace. When the group went on hiatus in 2001, 5WD members Dale LaDuke and Kris Jarvis thought they would take a break for a while. However, Kris's husband Keith, had other ideas. Long an aficionado of traditional Irish and Scottish music, Keith wondered what the stunning country and pop vocals of Dale and Chris would sound like mixed with Celtic instruments and arrangements. Add their solid songwriting talents, and it was obvious from the first rehearsal that there was something special going on here. All that was needed was the addition of multi-instrumentalist Greg Kruger to complete the sound Keith heard in his head. With Keith on penny whistle, keyboards, percussion and vocals, Dale on guitar, accordion and vocals, Greg on guitar, mandolin and vocals and Kris on lead vocals, the remnants have created a unique and contemporary sound that is just starting to create a stir in the Southern California music community.

Grass doesn't grow under Antara & Delilah's feet. Playing more than 200 shows since 1999, it comes as no surprise that this contemporary folk duo has been honored with the title Best Local Band by the Santa Barbara News-Press two years in a row (2001 and 2002). Sitting solidly atop the Santa Barbara, California music scene, the duo has been busy branching out, taking their original tunes up and down the Pacific coast, and reaching eastward to the Atlantic, all the while garnering fans along the way.
2002 and Dua, 2000), Antara & Delilah have their eyes solidly on the horizon. Their powerful marketing tools include a mailing list built through grassroots promotion, an extensive and professional web presence and an increasing line of merchandise. Antara & Delilah are looking toward the future with a full performance calendar and a constant flow of new songs, seeking an outlet to record their third CD. In February, the duo will attend the Folk Alliance Conference in Nashville, where there is certain to be no stone left unturned.
