Stan was a very interesting guy....
Not very friendly.
I remember one show in Louisville.
Some time in the early 1980s.
They stayed at the same hotel on Broadway where they stayed for the show in 1965 where I saw them the first time.
Bob remembered this.
My friend, Tom and I met them at the bar before the show.
Tom had them all sign his PS banjo.
Bob played a song on it.
He said it was the only 5-string song he could play.
It wasn't anything I'd ever heard before.
They had a van and we all got in it to go to the show. Tom and I got in the back of it and sat on the floor.
Stan drove.
This was when I learned that Stan was their best driver whenever they found themselves in heavy traffic. Stan was a master at weaving through traffic to get to the show on time.
I was told that every band needs one of these people ... Stan was their guy guy for this chore.
