Any idea what song they were doing when you took this pic...
Nick playing 8-string tenor.
Bob was playing the D-35 on the last Andy Williams show they did.
The D-35 has a thinner neck. I suspect that Bob didn't like this.
Bob was a "gripper."
Bob and Tommy Smothers played guitar very similar.
But, Tommy played more individual notes and not just chords as did Bob.
On the first show when Neck returned, in Winston-Salem, Bob got Glenn Yarbrough's Road Manager, Rein Neggo, to run the sound. When I saw the sound system, I noticed a cassette recorder in the rack. I went and bought a cassette and we recorded the show.
I don't know how it happened, but the recording is from only Bob's guitar mic. All you hear on the recording is Bob playing his guitar. It's pretty cool.
I don't know where the Cassette is.
Rein was a supper nice guy... died from cancer at an early age.
Glenn loved the guy... he wrote a very nice memorial that was in Allan Shaw's magazine.
Anyone ever shake hands with Bob?
He had callouses on the insides of his fingers.... bottoms .. not the tips.
Anyone ever watch how Nick made his chords?
PERFECT finger action. Like a marching band.
