Hapa haole = half-breed, brah....
I just sent a few friends including Bob & Bobbie a note that when I go into my studio tonight to do my podcast, one of the first things I'm going to do after all the upfront business is say Happy Birthday To Bob and add some of my personal feelings for him. I can't be in Phoenix to spend time with him tomorrow, so "social media" is the next best thing. I don't mind at all sharing my email to The Shanes Letting them know about my PODCAST tonight.
Bobbie & (Bob),
I’m not aware if you know, or are aware of my PODCAST that I’ve been doing for the past six (6) months.
It’s short name is “GOAFS” or "Gettin’ Old Ain’t For Sissies" a line I ripped from “debobwan" himself.
I know that line has been around for years but, when I first heard it was out of Bob’s mouth and I laughed my ass off.
Well, I was a bit younger then, but it’s funny how certain things turn around and bite ya in the butt. I’m 71, and will be 72 in April and boy, I well know the the truth behind that line.
There’s a point ya have to just suck it up, and face the fact, that waking up each day is a “blessing” and you must live your life as best you can, and be grateful for it.
So, tonight January 31st at 7:00pm CST, episode #66 of my 30 minute PODCAST will air, and in front, (after the usual business of “openings”, and “sponsor credits”), I’m going to take some time to acknowledge one of my dear friends whom I really feel made an impact not only on my LIFE, but also on my CAREER.
That man is Mr. Bob Shane.
Bob is the only living, surviving member of a group that not only changed “musical” history, but American history as well.
Tomorrow, February 1st, Bob will 85 years young. I say “young”, because no matter what physical illness has hit him over the past few years, Bob still has the same razor sharp wit, a sense of bizarre humor that would stop a charging bull, and wonderful voice that even Frank Sinatra dare not cover Bob’s songs.
I had the rare honor and privilege work on a project with Bob, and Nick and Jane Heyl during the Trios 25th Anniversary. That was only because Bob trusted and recommended me. It was a blast that I will never forget. Thanks Bob!
Today, Bob lives in Phoenix, Arizona with his lovely wife Bobbie. He watches over the Kingston Trio brand as three guys try their best to carry the torch over 60 years later. Those are BIG SHOES TO FILL!
Those Songs and Stripe Shirts Bob will never fade, because of YOU.
Let me summarize by saying, you can catch my POCAST on the iHEART PODCAST NETWORK, SoundCloud where it’s FREE, Spotify, Tumblr, Spreaker, Twitter & my own Face Book page..the "main page" not the timeline.
Just look for Episode #66
Happy Birthday Mr. Shane & many more from "hapa hawli” (if I spelled or say it wrong on the PODCAST, I know I’ll hear about it)
