I had the priveldge of meeting David at Fantasy Camp 2017. I don't believe he performed at all, unless in a private jam. He seemed very genuine and enjoyed shooting the breeze on subjects we all know and care about. TC
David is one of the "FINEST" singers, songwriters and musicians you will ever come across. As a matter of fact, Bob Shane did hook up with David just prior to the "NEW" Kingston Trio in the late 60's.
David has a CD for sale on his website a "TRIBUTE" to the Kingston Trio".
I believe it's only $10.00...I'm happy to say David is one of my FaceBook buds! and the money would be well worth spent!
Davids voice would be the "PERFECT" fit for that middle spot where Bob stood for so many years. The unfortunate issue, David has a solo career now that thrives, and, we're getting a little "long in the tooth" as years go by don't we? Maybe he's happy where he's at?
But for some uncanny reason, Mr. Peel retains his youthful glow quite well. Take a look, on his web page, there's also a great picture of Dave in that middle spot singing with George & Bob Haworth. I would have really given a weeks pay to have heard that performance, I'm sure with David, George and Bobby it was GREAT!
Bottom line. The man is talented, humble and just darn good.
I'm sure he would have been a good choice if you know who hadn't slapped 100k on the table first. Cash always seems to make people make the strangest decisions.
However, if you've got an extra $10. bucks around, buy David Peels Kingston Trio Tribute CD, You WILL NOT be dissapointed.
If you have the DVD of the 45th reunion from the Birchemere..David is part of the group that sang "Rider" just before the trio came on....
David Peel had been mentioned as a possible replacement for Bob Shane before he retired. Does anyone know where there might be his music/recordings available, just curious as to what his voice was like. His name makes it somewhat difficult because there was a rock and roller by that name and that keeps coming up.
