Re: The Inside Story
Best of luck Rick, but I am definitely looking forward to the Folk Legends getting back in action. You know I thought the shows in Venice were the best I've ever seen out of any folk act, and I've seen a lot. And you know I love you, because you are class. Marleen
Guys - Yes, this whole scene is about as weird as it can get right now, isnít it? I loved BrianQís study of the lineage and the ďIím my own grandpaĒ line, too (remember that song?). It certainly does seem like that now.
But just to make sure everyone knows whatís going on, Iím filling in with the Limeliters simply because I like Andy and saw they were in a bind. The gig in Austin will be the first one for Steve Brooks who only recently joined the group, so with Don gone that left only Andy to hold the fort. There are three people who could have jumped in and sung the tenor lines without rehearsal: Mack Bailey, Gaylan Taylor and me. I donít know if they called the other guys but when they called me I said yes, Iíd do the three gigs through the beginning of March to give them time to find a permanent replacement for Don.
It will be fun to sing through the old arrangements (and a little bit of money coming in right now wonít hurt a bit either), but walk away from The Folk Legends? Youíve got to be kidding! Weíre just getting going and only had to pause because of Georgeís eye surgery. The response from the venues and the agents has been very enthusiastic and gives us great hopes for the potential of the group. So for now itís a matter of waiting for the booking season to roll around and doing what we can to keep up our chops until then.
I know I donít post often, but thought youíd like to now the scoop from the inside.
