Re: Powerline Junkies Debut
My comments are based on the "assumption" that this group isn't just being put together for a "one-off" charity performance but to get work as a viable folk-era band, capitalizing on the popularity of the Kingston Trio. Of course, we all know the trouble one can get into when he/she "assumes" something. Yet it's difficult to ignore the names Reynolds and Guard in any group. There has to be a desire to become a money-making performance group. And I bet that Josh and Dave will use the Kingston Trio name in their promotion/billing. That's something that George and Rick are not legally allowed to do.
I think this group has little future and I believe the current KT (version 3.3 or whatever) will implode within a year and the Kingston Trio name will be worthless.
Pretty freaking sad if you ask me.
P.S. Sorry if this is hurtful but there's been too little honesty in the rape and pillaging of the Kingston Trio.
I'm a little taken aback by the negative comments aimed at Josh's new venture. Granted, the musicality is no match for Folk Legends or the GBR iteration of the KT but I don't think Josh is going for that. I think he and his friends just want to have fun and raise some money for a cause.
I know a lot of us are still pissed at the Marvinettes and their treatment of the KT legacy but I don't think the negative vibes towards Josh helps anyone in the long run. (My own negative vibes really extend to Mike Marvin but that's my own thing to deal with).
I've sung at Camp a few times and love singing in general but I would hate to hear some of my Camp friends critique my musical prowess(or lack thereof) on a public forum...
Just my thoughts...
So right, John!
As a frequent Camp jammer, I take umbrage at that comparison, Rick!
Sounds like three guys jamming at Folk Camp. Sorry. Nothing there.
