Brucester! LOL! I remember that post of a year ago about cheering up listening to Leonard Cohen. That still makes me laugh. Still, what a wonderful song writer Leonard was. Suzanne is one of the most beautiful songs of all time.
BUT! GORDON LIGHTFOOT is the greatest singer song writer of all time IMHO! (Rick, I know John Denver is your pick).
I'm not Canadian but CANADIAN RAILROAD TRILOGY captures the spirit of a nation like no other song I can think of. I AM AUSTRAILIAN by The Seekers is right up there too.
Thank you Gordon Lightfoot for all the great songs too numerous to mention. Simply the best! MTABob
MTABob: You know that here in Canada, whenever we feel down or upset about THE KINGSTON TRIO, etc...
we all cheer up by listening to our legendary poet & songwriter LEONARD COHEN.
I just wanted to say THANK YOU to all AMERICANS on this Board for being fans of GORDON LIGHTFOOT.
Be it here on Rick Daly's Folk U.S.A. Message Board or Ken Laing's Kingston Crossroads,
you have always shown acknowledgement & recognition of Gord.
It doesn't go un-noticed....and I thank you.
=> GORDON LIGHTFOOT turned 80 on November 17th, 2018.
Here's one of Gord's best known songs:
Your analogy of the hale bale at an archery range is right on the money.
I would love Bob Haworth to continue to post here but I don't feel like I can sugarcoat what went down with GBR or the quality of the music that came with the takeover.
I appreciate Mr. Haworth's many years of service with the Kingston Trio and hope he realizes my anger and frustration have nothing to do with him. I only wish him the best.
thank you for your participation on the board. thanks for sharing your insights. a friend of mine, who owns one of the finest music stores in the country, and well known author of many books on martin, told me in about 2002 that he does not post on public boards for the same reason he doesn't dress up like a hay bale and stand on an archery range. but thank you for trying to stick it out.
