Today I received an email from my friend & former Kingston Trio member Bob Haworth. Bob as many of you may know moved back to his home town of Medford, Oregon back in January of 2014.
Bob and two friends are now doing some theatre, one of which is a show called "SPOTLIGHT ON THE KINGSTON TRIO"!
It features Bob, a fellow named John Hollis, (who sings with Bob as Hollis & Haworth), but to do this "spolight series show, Bob asked his church choir director to step in (who happens to play a mean tenor guitar) to form a TRIO. They've sold out every night of a 12 day run. QUOTE BOB: " We're really not trying to "be" the TRIO, except that this is theatre and we're playing the parts" UNQUOTE
The Camelot Theatre has done "Spot lights on ... "The Eagles, James Taylor, Billy Joel, & more" - Bob says "last year I was in the "Spotlight on Peter, Paul & Mary". The concept is to tell the story of the artist in narration and, then do as many songs as you can squeezed in a 2 hour show. Bob continued, "I write the script for the show and put it all together". He tells me he's really happy with the results, and thinks Bob Shane would be pleased too.
As for Bob Shanes health, a personal note from me, Tomm Rivers.
I asked again if I could visit my old friend for a few hours. Ya know, fly in, fly out. Not to bother the old guy. Bobbie emailed and said "an hour" would be fine. Bob has good days and not so good days.
Not a good idea to overexert him. I get it.
But, at my age, with my health issues, not to mention the air fare, an hour visit isn't enough. Here's why.
Bob Haworth went on:
QUOTE: As for deBobwan, he's not much of a talker these days and when I do get him on the phone it's only for a couple of sentences.
I mostly talk with Bobbie..UNQUOTE -
The rest I would rather not get into.
Bob Haworth is one of my good friends, a true gentleman and great performer. I appreciate his letter to me and all the information.
Thanks for sharing Bob H.
Folks, while we have Bob Shane, let's show some respect and give him some space & privacy, as he gave us so much more to hold onto. Bob won't be with us forever. Just love him in your heart.
Bob Shane "YOU" are loved, admired, and cherished by both your family friends and fans.
Please know this YOU are an a "AMERICAN TREASURE" sir!
