Re: So what strings?
So I was mistaken in my post earlier, I don't use the exact same same strings on my HD-28. I actually use Martin SP 80/20 Bronze mediums. And on my Martin OMCE PA-4 I use the same but in light gauge. To my ear these are the best strings sound wise for a Martin paying mostly folk style music. They do require changing a couple times a year or more (depending on how much I am playing), but the sound is worth it. I've tried coated strings and don't like them. I used Elixir coated strings on old Tacoma and found them to break all the time, plus the coating often flaked off. On occasion when I buy for one of my other acoustics (Tacoma, Recording King, Ovation) I now usually go with a brighter string like a D'addario light.
A follow up to my question below about my D-28. I mentioned I have Martin Life Span medium gauge strings on my D-28. I bought a ton of them on sale a while back from Elderly or Just Strings or someplace. But what do you guys like and use? Al mentioned Elixirs. And I know there are many choices out there. So what are the best strings. Stupid question I know. Whatever sound best on my guitar!
