Re: What's wrong with my D-18?
Play it for half an hour and see if it wakes up.
I'm serious. One of my D-28's sounds like poop for a while if it's been sitting-you have to get it up to operating temp.
If not, strings. Nothing changed on your nut and saddle. Could also be high humidity-we're doing the backstroke out here right now.
I know you have to hear it to know what I mean, but I'll try to describe the problem I seem to have with my 1970 D-18. There's no sustain. If I pick up the guitar and play a chord (I just played a C major chord), the sound dies out in three or four seconds. It just seems to deaden and go away. I have Martin Life Span medium strings on it. Could I need a new saddle or nut? Or am I expecting too much and three or four or five seconds is respectable sustain. It just sounds dead to me. It's depressing. It just doesn't sound like a Martin should.
